It's Okay if You're a Mom Who Can't Today

To the mom who can’t today. You are not alone.

There’s a mom out there who's exhausted from a night plagued with worry. She was worried if she played enough with her kids, about the to-do list she couldn't finish, and if she played favorites with her kids during the fight they had over that toy she took away…

…and today, she can’t, too.

There’s a mom out there who woke up over it. She’s over the fighting, the talking back, the using hands. She doesn’t feel like cleaning crumbs off the floor…

…and today, she can’t, too.

There’s a mom who woke up with extreme insecurity. There's a voice whispering to her that she's a terrible mom, so why even try. She's weighted down by hopelessness. That voice is depression, and today it’s winning out…

…and today, she can’t, too.

There’s a mom out there who’s hardy keeping it together and doesn’t feel like remembering everything for everyone. Is it her turn to bring the snack to the soccer game? Her marriage hit a rough patch, and she’s trying to keep it all together…

…and today, she can’t, too.

We all know what it’s like to be beaten up by motherhood and life.

Both are hard.

And we can’t be the person who is everything to everyone every minute of every day when life is bringing us down too.

And this just means we’re human.

And on these days,
it’s okay to give your kids peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner.

It’s okay to hand your kids their iPads and don't limit their usage.

So when you feel like you can't, don't feel bad, remember you are not alone.

And tomorrow, or the next day, or the day after that, you will be a mom who can again.
